The Bible in 25 Weeks

The Bible in 25 Weeks is for everyone! You are welcome to come to any session and take part in the reading a much or as little as you are able. Reading schedules and bookmarks are available in the narthex.

In our worship services we will have readings that follow the Bible through from beginning to end – starting with Creation on September 11th, and ending with Spiritual Gifts at the end of May. It will be one story each week, following the story of the Bible through from beginning to end. It will skip a lot, but it will give the main points.

For those who are more ambitious: We will read through the Bible in 25 weeks. The Old Testament between September 11th and Christmas, and the New Testament from New Year’s through March 10th. And we will meet on Sunday mornings during the Sunday School hour (10:15 - 11:00 am) to talk about it. (See reading schedule below)

From the Pastor’s Desk...
(August 2011 newsletter)

Okay, here we go again. Let’s face it, in the church – we’re stuck. We just keep telling the same stories over and over again. However, these are important stories – so we need to tell them, and read them, over and over again. It’s really quite a good place to be stuck.

We read the stories in our worship services, but we often skip around a lot. A story from the Old Testament, something from after Jesus’ death and resurrection, a story about Jesus. We jump from story to story, from week to week, and unless you really know the Bible well, it all starts to run together. (David was before Jesus, right? And was Abraham before that? And where does Moses fit in anyway?) We tell the stories, but we don’t spend a lot of time on chronology.

So, let’s try to get to know the Bible well. Let’s try to get the story straight, from first to last. The best way to do that, is to actually read the Bible. And it is not just something that a few special people can do – you can do it. We have had quite a few people do it this year already, and you can do it too.

Have you wanted to read the Bible but you never got around to it, never made the commitment, or were just too intimidated by it (those strange name, and all those pages)? Did you hear about “The Bible in 90 Days” that some of us did a few months ago and think to yourself: “That’s just crazy!”? (Yeah, you’re right. It was a little crazy.) Did you not make it through all 90 days or did it just go too fast for you to get it all? (Believe me, it was a bit fast.)

Well, here’s another chance, and maybe it will work out better for you. We are doing two things starting in September to help us all get to know the story of the Bible better.

For everyone: In our worship services we will have readings that follow the Bible through from beginning to end – starting with Creation on September 11th, and ending with Spiritual Gifts at the end of May.

And we will meet on Sunday mornings during the Sunday School hour to talk about it.

The reading schedule is included below. We will also have copies available at the church and printed in the August newsletter. You can download a pdf of the reading schedule here.

We’ll take it a little slower than we did this past year. Please sign up for this program in the narthex, or call the church office. You can use any Bible to do the reading, but if you would like a copy of The 90 Day Bible, which is a good Bible for just reading, let us know and we can order one for you.

Join us this year as we get to know the story of the Bible better.

In Christ’s Peace,

Pastor Robb
